We lead innovation in energy storage

We are experts in what we do and passionate in how we do it. Energy storage is not just about energy, it's transforming how and where we use power and is an essential ingredient for change; for us to be cleaner and more efficient in what we do and make the world better for us and those that succeed us. We are a business that is about success and also about giving back.

THE BEGINNING

Danny Jones, MIET
Founder and Director
Batteries are the oldest electrical technology but still the least understood. Energy storage has been at the heart of everything I have experienced from Industrial UPS systems and Ni-Cad batteries on oil rigs in the 1980's to the ever changing spectrum of lead acid batteries in boats and specialist vehicles, through to the latest Lithium Ion products in today's EV's and energy storage systems. Advances in technology have paved the way for a quiet revolution enabling us to do things not possible just a short time ago. As our world changes we need new solutions to enable that change and energy is right at the centre of that. Most important of all is understanding our customer's needs and having solutions flexible enough to meet those needs.

After the financial crash in 2008, one way to stimulate the UK economy was for the government to invest in the renewables sector.  Incentives to fit solar panels and wind turbines encouraged significant growth.  For those not connected to the grid network, however, things were complicated and battery energy storage was an essential ingredient.  With a pedigree working with batteries in the harsh environments of the marine and automotive sectors, OGE were well placed to capitalise on this opportunity.

After a period of delivering bespoke solutions, it became clear that there were advantages in providing what we do as a factory built, ready to go solution and so gridtogo™ was conceived.  An opportunity was seen in the temporary power world, for construction and events, where gridtogo™ could be located alongside a diesel generator creating a hybrid power solution and so saving fuel, cutting carbon emissions and saving money.

In 2013, OGE had the opportunity to develop hybrid solutions to meet the demanding needs of the electricity distribution sector as an alternative to running generators for restorations that was supported by the Low Carbon Networks and Innovations funding. Working with the DNO’s afforded OGE exposure to the challenges faced and how energy storage technology offered exciting solutions for challenges with distributed energy systems, growing renewables uptake and the emerging world of EV charging.

Our solutions have continued to evolve ever since and see us working in off grid applications such as in temporary power; for grid connected solutions “behind the meter” where storage is used to support the network; then in a world where storage technology enables multiple energy resources to be used, optimising the use of renewables and the grid so you can choose to be on the grid, off the grid or both!

Ongrid, Offgrid, anywhere in between!
